Tag Tours
Only a small collection of art actually makes it into our galleries, so we thought we would share some of the hidden gems currently on display and in storage. Here you'll find a collection of hand crafted, online tours by IMA staff that provide unique and unexpected connections to our extensive collection of art. We have so many works of art in our collection, that we thought we would have fun in presenting some you may never see. Enjoy.
2012 IMA Playoffs
The Big Game is in Indianapolis this year, and while our beloved Colts won't be playing, we’re still in the mood for football. In this Tag Tour, we have the 8 works of art that were most-viewed on our web site this year. Each round of the playoffs (starting Jan 7), we’ll ask you to vote on which piece should continue to the next round. Here’s the kicker – we want you to choose the artworks that will represent Wildcard teams. Check out the works that have already made the cut below and follow us on Facebook to vote for your Wildcard picks. Final “teams” will be announced just after the New Year.
All Hallow's Eve
As the weather turns chilly, thoughts turn to the most important question of the season: What will I be for Halloween? We have assembled a set of ghoulish and ghastly works for you, so look for a little inspiration in the IMA's macabre collection.
LOLCatz
IMA Staffers love LOLCatz. We love them so much, in fact, we set out to find some mischievous felines in the collection, as well. Enjoy these whiskered works.
Indy is a Sports Town
It's true. Indianapolis is a sports town. We've got the Indianapolis Colts, Fever, Indians, Pacers and the Indy 500. So if you are a sports fan and find yourself on an art museum site, we thought we would provide a sports-tailored art experience. Go Team!
Happy Hour
You don't have to wait until 5pm to access this happy hour. We searched through our collection to find works of art that feature wine, beer, and other libations. Check back frequently to see if we're running your special, although I doubt we'll have that Harvey Wallbanger you're craving.
The Blues
Blue can be many things. Blue is a color. When used effectively, blue may evoke certain feelings in you, also referred to as 'The Blues.' We've put a collection of works that make use of blue: navy, cerulean, azure, and aqua. Whether you're talking Muddy Waters or water colors, we've got a thing for The Blues.
Animals in Art
It's kind of like the Discovery Channel. Take a closer look at these works of art. What critters do you see? Notice how prevalent animals have been over time. We can't live without them. Or stop including them in our creativity.
WTF?
This is a collection of art directly from the Indianapolis Museum of Art that made us stop and think - What's this for? The works of art you'll encounter in this collection are thought-provoking, quirky, odd, funny and potentially, from another planet. Enjoy this Tag Tour, and feel free to add your "What's this for?" tag.
I'm in the Mood for Love
Ah, Love. An enjoyable disorder characterized by feelings of excitement, anticipation, high hopes, and giddiness. Whether you're lookin' or leavin'- get smitten with this tour of love-themed works of art. Now that's Amore.
Super Bowls
You don't have to love football to love this collection. From 11th-century Chinese ceramics to 20th-century colanders, the IMA has Super Bowls that would even make Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts jealous.
Plugged In
This isn't exactly a plugin for your computer. We're talking about works of art that require electricity to run. Enjoy these pieces from IMA's collection that feature artists that stepped outside of traditional mediums. Don't worry, you won't get shocked.
In the Nude
This tour is kind of Rated R. We’re not checking ID’s, but we will warn you that this Tag Tour highlights some of the nudes that appear in our collection. Don't be shy, it's art.
Impress My Boss/Grandma/Hot Date
Got someone special that you need to impress? Explore significant (and very cool) works from around the world and drop some knowledge in the process. Next time you're at the IMA with your boss/grandma/hot date, give this tour a whirl and see what happens.
